ILCA vang – Upper assembly block only (Harken)

This block has been used in this application for many years & it has proved to be strong, reliable, efficient, robust & cost effective. It was considered to be the best in 2001 when the “XD” control systems were introduced onto the Laser & little seems to have changed. Whilst other manufacturers have since introduced newer, & in come cases much more expensive, blocks which have been “hyped-up” none have actually proved to be demonstrably better.

This block has one other advantage & that is the vang primary line can be spliced independently of the block & then “looped” on. This makes the carrying of a spare primary line a cheap option with its replacement being quick & easy.

If this block is kept clean & lubricated from time to time with McLube “One Drop” then it should be a worthwhile purchase.
